Stay Cool

With summer here and temperatures and humidity so high, staying properly hydrated is of utmost importance. Dehydration can cause a variety of problems, including headaches, fatigue, dizziness, and even heat stroke.


Keep these easy tips for hydration at the forefront of your mind!


1. Drink plenty of water. Water is the best way to stay hydrated.

2. Drink other drinks like smoothies or seltzer to keep you hydrated and happy!

3. Eat water-rich foods. Some fruits and vegetables are very high in water content. Eating these foods can help you stay hydrated, even if you're not drinking a lot of fluids. Some water-rich foods include:

  • Watermelon

  • Cantaloupe

  • Honeydew melon

  • Grapefruit

  • Strawberries

  • Cucumbers

  • Celery

  • Lettuce

  • Tomatoes

4. Take breaks in the shade. If you're working or exercising in hot weather, take breaks in the shade to cool down.

5. Wear Sunscreen. It helps protect your skin from the UV of the sun.

6. Wear loose-fitting, light-colored clothing. Loose-fitting, light-colored clothing will help your body stay cool.

6. Moisten your skin. If you're feeling hot, moisten your skin with a cool cloth or take a cool shower.

7. Drink cold drinks or suck on ices if you need extra fluids.

REMEMBER:

-Carry a water bottle with you wherever you go. This will make it easy to stay hydrated throughout the day.

-Set a reminder on your phone to drink water throughout the day. This will help you stay on track and avoid getting dehydrated.

-Listen to your body. If you feel thirsty, drink fluids. Don't wait until you're feeling dehydrated to start drinking.

-Pay attention to the signs of dehydration. These include:

  • Dry mouth

  • Dark urine

  • Fatigue

  • Headache

  • Dizziness
