Key to Success

Updated: May 15, 2023

Although there are many aspects involved with success, big one is.... TIME.

Many People dream about a time when they will have time. Important projects are put off until there is more time. People wait to see others until there is time. Opportunities are left hanging until there is time.

Let's be real. There is never time.

We all live busy lives. Sometimes we feel more like a juggler, trying to keep up the act we have created, than a mother, or teacher, or therapist or whatever we may be. It seems we are always racing the clock trying to accomplish so much in a 24 hour period. We cannot, however, use our lack of time to miss opportunities that come our way. One gift we can give ourselves is working on our time management to be able to find small pockets of time to make our own.

The time is now!

Here are some pointers to get on top of time management.

  • Have a plan for the day’s accomplishments. Start your day right. How do you do that? Get to sleep at a reasonable time the night before. When you sleep enough, you are much more capable to manage whatever the day has to bring.

  • Set a small but significant to-do list for the day. This will help you stay focused without being unreasonable to yourself. What do you want to achieve in the short-term and long-term? Once you know what you want to achieve, you can start to break it down into smaller, more manageable tasks.

  • Prioritize your tasks. Not all tasks are created equal. Some are more important than others. Prioritize your tasks so that you can focus on the most important ones first.

  • Set deadlines for yourself. Deadlines will help you stay on track and avoid procrastination. Fight the urge to procrastinate. If there is a “dreaded” task that needs to get done, dedicate just ten minutes to working on it. Split that throughout a few days and you will get it done without the anxiety.

  • Take breaks. Don't try to work for hours on end without taking a break. Get up and move around every 20-30 minutes to avoid burnout. If you made a big push and got a lot done, make time for a few minutes break. Burn-out is real! Part of being productive if leaving time for relaxation.

  • Delegate tasks. If you can, delegate tasks to others. This will free up your time so that you can focus on the most important things.

  • Avoid distractions. When you're working on a task, try to avoid distractions as much as possible. This means turning off your phone, closing your email, and finding a quiet place to work.

  • Reward yourself. When you complete a task, reward yourself with something that you enjoy. This will help you stay motivated and on track.

  • When you end each day, have a plan for tomorrow. Thinking ahead will keep your mind clear.

By following these tips, you can learn to manage your time effectively and achieve your goals.
