When it comes to nutrition, health, and fitness goals, it is all too common for the limiting beliefs set in. I am too busy to take care of myself. It's too expensive to invest in myself. Next month, I will have more time to invest in myself. I've had bad habits for so long, so I am hopeless. I have tried everything and it does not work for me. I am so lost and overwhelmed I don't even know where to begin. I am addicted to food; it will be impossible to be healthy. My goal is too great or not realistic, so I will never get there. Sound familiar? Now is the time to take a deep breathe and expand the belief you have in yourself. Think of a time in your life where you pushed through and saw success. What did that feel like? Was it an easy win? Did it happen overnight? Chances are you worked tremendously hard and kept persisting until you reached your success. We need to remember to be kind to ourselves and allow ourselves the time and focus to work towards a goal.
Positive self-talk is key. Anything can be possible if we expand our consciousness. Through changing our perception, we can recognize there is so much that can be done to reach our health goals. We can and have been successful! There may be some downs but that’s just what propels us to the next up.
At the start of my dietetic internship I was expecting my second child. Fear and uncertainty gripped me. How would I be able to juggle the responsibilities and course load? How would I keep up? There were so many moving parts, would it be possible to get through this. Instead of looking at the full picture, I broke everything down week by week. Meeting little goals propelled me forward and encouraged me to keep pushing. I am proud to say, when my son was 1 year old, I successfully completed my internship. Instead of looking down at me for my split responsibilities, people were impressed by my ability to stay on top of the ball with all my other responsibilities. These positive feelings associated with this accomplishment continue to encourage me to always continue to seek new successes.
