5 tips to be proactive to keep your metabolism working for you

In simple terms metabolism is the process of the body converting food to energy to fuel all the processes in the body such as breathing, blood circulation, and cell growth and repair. The faster one’s metabolism, the sooner food is digested and altered to be used as fuel.


1. Get 7-9 hours of sleep- the importance of sleep CANNOT be stressed enough. During sleep itself the body’s metabolism actually slows down. When a person gets enough sleep, however, they have more energy during the wake hours that assist with speeding up metabolism.

2. Exercise- this includes anything that increases the heart rate such as walking, biking, swimming, or running. This directly increases the body’s metabolic rate even after the exercise is finished.

3. Eat a balanced breakfast that is protein rich- right after a meal the body’s metabolism goes up. This is called the Thermic Effect of Food. Protein has a higher TEF than fat or carbohydrates. The body takes longer to absorb it Protein also supports muscle growth.

4. Increase muscle mass- muscle tissue is more metabolically active than fat tissue. This means at rest; more calories are being burned to support the lean muscle tissue.

5. Eat fiber and probiotics to stimulate digestion – through feeding the natural gut bacteria, They arouse healthy fat digestion and hormone balance which supports a healthy metabolism.


Our bodies are incredible gifts! If we increase our awareness and work to help our bodies do its job best, our health gets the most benefit!
